Salvador Salinas

Mr. Salinas is a 48 year old, single dad with two kids. He and his family were receiving SNAP E&T benefits. Mr. Salinas had been employed by Trans World Construction Company, from January 1, 2005 to May 1, 2011, without having any previous construction experience or certifications. However, due to the declining economy, Mr. Salinas and his family was struggling to meet their daily needs. Mr. Salinas was interested in taking the Green Construction and Weatherization trainings. However, he was afraid that his background was going to prevent him from participating in the program.

Mr. Salinas graduated and received his certifications in Core Construction and Weatherization on June 30, 2011 and July 29, 2011 (respectively). In addition, he received his OSHA-10 certification on July 30, 2011.

Due to his previous work history and his pleasant personality, Mr. Salinas was able to secure employment with MEMCO as Carpenter on August 30, 2011, with the starting pay of $16.00/hr.

The following Thank You Note was e-mailed to his Career Coach, Pat San, as well as to the entire SER Staff on August 31, 2011:

“Pat, Thank you and SER for all your help getting me started in my employment. I am now employed with Memco/ Roe Company/British Petroleum in Texas City Refinery. I can’t thank enough for your support. There are so many people to thank at SER. I will continue to attend and communicate with everyone at SER for assistance and direction. I realize this only the beginning of our future together as a student and a supporter of the program. SER has presented to me and my family with an opportunity to give back to the community. “

 Respectfully,

Salvador Salinas
