Scott R.
Scott R. came to SER in November of 2010. He responded to a training ad that SER had placed on Craigslist. His unemployment benefits were coming to an end in December of 2010; and he was very concerned about how he was going to maintain his home and a vehicle he bought prior to his unemployment. He had several years experience but lacked credentials to show a prospective employers.
At 53, he felt his age and criminal background were playing a major role in not securing employment. He had always worked and being unemployed was very difficult for him to accept, his confidence and self-esteem were at an all time low. He did not have a lot of family support in Houston and felt he was all alone in battling this dark period of unemployment.
He went through the assessment process and did extremely well in his testing, scoring an average of 12.9, which is the highest you can score on the TABE test. He was approved for training and started Core Construction. He completed training and received two certificates NCEER and Perfect Attendance.
Shortly after completing Core training he found employment as an Electrician earning $15.00/hr. He felt very encouraged by his new employment and is optimistic about his opportunities for advancement.
