This course provides the ability to safely maintain and use hydraulic lifting equipment such as forklifts, skid-steers, and radial steers. The safety information and standards of practice will allow for minimized injury inside of warehousing and logistics. Students leaving the class will have the ability to evaluate the workplace to determine if equipment is in good working order, loads can be safely moved around obstacles, or loads may be too odd shaped to transport. Students are presented with the ability to evaluate the center of gravity on a vehicle with the load accounted for and are given a thorough understanding of fulcrum and moment forces and how they will impact the operation of lift equipment. Maintenance procedures include the proper inspection of hydraulic system, proper refueling and charging procedures, walk-around inspections, and sit-down inspections, as well as a complete understanding of equipment controls and instrumentation. Students will have the opportunity to drive a piece of equipment, attach and adjust forks, pick up and move loads, and maneuver around obstacles while carrying loads.
