Concrete Countertops

Course Description:

This course sets out to train students on how to utilize concrete as a material for the manufacture of countertops.  The course is specifically focused on achieving aesthetically pleasing, functional, and durable concrete working surfaces.  Countertop projects are done in small groups and each student is tested to adequately measure both their ability to physically create a countertop and their retention of concepts from the classroom.  The class places large emphasis on sustainability and using environmentally friendly materials and mixes within the concrete slurry.  Tools that are used include polishing pads and grinders, agitators, power drills, table saws, mixers, and jigsaws.  The class is finalized with a countertop being installed for a client, encouraging students to independently seek contracts and jobs where they may implement the knowledge gained in an entrepreneurial venture.
